How To Use Triggers To Enhance Your Goddess Glow-Up

The label “trigger warning” often elicits a variety of reactions. Some people will shy away from the content to protect themselves. Others won’t hesitate to engage with triggering experiences because the media and modern culture have trained humanity to react constantly. Only when we work to raise our level of consciousness do we break from unhealthy thought habits that cause reactionary behavior.

While certain content undeniably warrants caution, many instances of trigger warnings wrap candid discussions in unnecessary layers of protection. By shielding individuals from discomfort, we inadvertently hinder many from their growth potential. Triggers, in essence, are the mind, body, and soul's subtle directives urging us to deepen our self-healing journey. These are markers calling our attention to areas that need work. This is the essence of shadow work.

Once a seeker has achieved a solid foundation in mind, body, and soul harmony, I teach my gods and goddesses in the making to use triggers for rapid and profound personal development. Indeed, encountering triggers presents an opportunity for introspection and mindful evolution, provided one approaches them with self-awareness and a readiness to learn.

If you are on the inner journey and are ready to hug your shadow side, a necessary part of living in bliss, here is the fundamental process I teach in my emotional mastery workshop. This overarching process can help you to harness your triggers for personal growth:

Recognition and Acknowledgment: Identify situations, behaviors, or remarks that consistently provoke strong emotional responses. Delve into the patterns and specific triggers that significantly influence your psyche.

Pause and Reflect: Upon encountering a trigger, take a moment to pause and observe your immediate emotional and physical reactions. Tune into the sensations coursing through your body, the thoughts swirling in your mind, and the intensity of your emotions. Cultivating mindful awareness creates a vital space between the trigger and your response.

Exploration of Root Causes: Dive beneath the surface to unearth why a particular trigger holds sway over you. Triggers invariably trace back to past experiences, deeply ingrained beliefs, or unresolved emotional scars. Reflect on the symbolism inherent in the trigger and its resonance with your narrative or core principles.

Embrace Self-Compassion: Extend a hand of self-compassion rather than chastising yourself for succumbing to triggers. Understand that triggers constitute a natural facet of the human experience, and it's perfectly acceptable to undergo emotional upheavals. Approach yourself with gentleness and empathy as you navigate the terrain of personal growth.

Extracting Lessons and Growth Opportunities: Having identified the trigger and its root cause, glean insights into the lessons it offers. Pose questions to yourself: What insights does this trigger unveil regarding my beliefs or apprehensions? How might I craft a response that aligns with my values? What skills or perspectives can I cultivate to surmount this trigger in the future?

Seek Support When Necessary: Should you find traversing triggers independently daunting, consider enlisting the aid of a mentor, counselor, or trusted confidant. They can furnish invaluable guidance, perspectives, and tools to help you navigate triggers and nurture personal growth.

Employ Healthy Coping Mechanisms: As you embark on the journey of personal growth, devise healthy coping strategies to contend with triggers as they arise. These strategies could encompass deep breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, journaling, cognitive reframing, or engaging in activities that foster joy and relaxation.

Remember, personal growth is an iterative process necessitating patience and perseverance. Embrace triggers as opportunities for self-exploration, leveraging them to deepen your self-awareness and fortify your overall well-being. In doing so, you'll inch closer to embodying the divine essence of a goddess, empowered by your capacity for growth and transformation.

SHAMAN ISIS ON MENTAL HEALTH, RAISING CONSCIOUNESS, AND MORE

Our conversation with Shaman Isis, a real-life goddess, delved into intriguing topics such as mental health, the elevation of consciousness, and the much-anticipated new issue of SoulTech Magazine.

You have a lot going on. You are a best-selling author, publisher, teacher, producer, mom, and more. How do you keep all those balls in the air and stay in mind, body, and soul harmony?

I don't always do it perfectly, and that aspect is sometimes missing from the spiritual conversation. The truth is that I have a solid program for staying on top of my wellness, but I am also very human and slip on occasion. I wish we didn't idolize the ideal of perfection in spirituality, as I think it turns a lot of people off to the journey and is something that is rooted in religion, not spirituality.

You openly share your struggles with mental health in your best-seller Memory Mansion, the magazine, the podcast, and your social content. What is the most important thing you have learned on that journey to self-love?

Mental health awareness is very important to me. I spent years silently suffering and watched many struggle with their mental fitness. Shadow work, using my triggers for growth, and slowly raising my consciousness dramatically changed my life. The most important thing I learned on my journey is that raising human consciousness is the answer to the mental health crisis, and it has since become the mission of all of my work. We live in a world that teaches us to be victims and deluges us with fear-based narratives that keep us living at the lower levels of the human consciousness scale.

How does someone raise their consciousness?

Our life experience is rooted in our thought habits. When we slip into unhealthy thoughts, we change our mental state, which changes our emotional state, energy in motion, and frequency and vibration. That vibe becomes our experience. When we replace our unhealthy thought habits with quality thoughts and use our triggers to practice new, healthy ways of living, we move up the human consciousness scale from fear, guilt, and envy to intention and love. With time and practice replacing unhealthy cycles with healthy thoughts, you move up to bliss and fall in love with life again.

We love the cover of the goddess issue. You look badass and are redefining what is possible over 50. Tell us about the cover and issue.

Thank you! I had a lot of fun with that. We went back and forth about doing a shoot and then realized we could have many more options using AI. So, we took a photo from the book launch during Miami Art Week and combined it with goddess-themed AI. I am happy with how it turned out.  I look and feel better than I ever did in my 40s. The patriarchy has taught the world to dismiss older women because they hold too much wisdom. Just look at how they label women as they get older: far more insulting phrases than cool ones. I say, fu%k that. Women are more valuable as they age. We tend to enter our true goddess era when we let go of what other people think.

This is your second issue of the magazine. So, what inspired the goddess theme?

Every person I have met who has learned self-love and practices conscious living glows with what can only be described as their god or goddess-self. We are all capable of being a god or goddess. This is what I teach in my book, workshops and retreats. When we are in flow with the universe, we are magical. I fought that flow for a long time with unhealthy patterns. So, this issue is dedicated to everyone on the journey to their most divine self. I like to think of it as inspiration for your hero's journey.

What's next?

We just had a fantastic kick-off to the Soundbites2Solutions event series in NYC with political leaders, so I look forward to the next one. We have terrific guests coming up on SoulTech's Citizen Journalist podcast. I have a mini retreat in NY based on the book in August and a longer one in September. I can't even believe I am going to put this in writing, but it's almost time to start book 3. Yikes! However, I love challenging myself and will always have a lot going on. It keeps you thriving.

MODERN GODDESSES HELPING GODDESSES

A powerful Q and A with Vitala Global's Roopan Gill and Genevieve Tam. The ladies behind the life-saving Aya Contigo app.

How does Vitala Global celebrate and honor the divine feminine energy in promoting reproductive health and body autonomy?

At Vitala Global, we celebrate the divine feminine energy by recognizing the inherent power and autonomy of women in matters concerning their reproductive health. Our data-driven approach allows us to develop effective and sustainable solutions tailored to the diverse needs of women and girls worldwide. We do it all with a sense of flexibility and fun because we believe that embracing joy and creativity is essential to achieving our mission of empowering women and girls to make informed choices about their bodies and futures.

Can you share any stories or anecdotes where individuals have reclaimed their power and embraced their goddess-like strength through Vitala Global's services or products?

Absolutely! Our most inspiring stories come from users who found empowerment and strength through Aya Contigo, our digital doula app. One of them had been struggling with her reproductive health, feeling powerless and uncertain about her future. However, with the support and guidance of Aya’s holistic digital solutions, she found companionship and reclaimed her power. Through our community-led approach, she received personalized support that addressed her unique needs and circumstances. She was able to access information and resources that empowered her to make informed decisions about her reproductive health. With the guidance of our compassionate team, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. She reflected on her experience with gratitude and determination when she shared: "[Aya Contigo] has given me my life back and I will not waste the opportunity I now have. Now I value my life as never before." Her story is a powerful testament to the impact of our commitment to helping individuals reclaim their power, embrace their strength, and live their lives to the fullest.

In what ways does Vitala Global foster a sense of sacredness and reverence for the body, particularly within the context of the goddess-themed issue of SoulTech magazine?

We foster a sense of sacredness and reverence for the body by recognizing and honoring its innate wisdom and power. We highlight the interconnectedness between the divine feminine energy and the physical body. Through Aya Contigo, we encourage individuals to embrace their bodies as sacred vessels of life and empowerment. Our holistic approach to sexual and reproductive health emphasizes the importance of nurturing and caring for the body and mind in a way that honors its divine essence. Ultimately, our goal is to empower individuals to cultivate a deep sense of reverence for their bodies, recognizing them as powerful expressions of the divine feminine energy within. How does Vitala Global encourage individuals to view their reproductive health journey as a sacred and empowering experience, aligning with the themes of divine femininity and self-love?

We recognize that reproductive health is deeply personal and believe in honoring the unique journey of each individual with compassion and respect. Our approach goes beyond just being present during individuals' abortion journeys; we are committed to providing comprehensive post-care support that honors their feelings and bodies. Through Aya Contigo, we offer a holistic support system that acknowledges the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of reproductive health. We encourage individuals to see their reproductive health journey as an opportunity for self-discovery and empowerment. By providing access to information, resources, and personalized support, we help individuals make informed decisions that align with their values and goals. Furthermore, we promote post-care practices of self-care and self-love that honor the body as a sacred vessel of life. We empower individuals to cultivate a deep sense of connection with themselves and their bodies. Ultimately, our goal is to create a safe and nurturing space where individuals can embrace their reproductive health journey with dignity, confidence, and self-love.

What role do ancient wisdom or spiritual traditions play in the modern conversation surrounding reproductive health and body autonomy, especially within the goddess-themed issue of SoulTech magazine?

Ancient wisdom and spiritual traditions offer profound insights into the modern discourse on reproductive health and body autonomy. These traditions have long honored the sacredness of the female body, recognizing its inherent connection to the cycles of life and creation. Rituals, ceremonies, and teachings from these traditions emphasize the importance of nurturing and honoring the body as a vessel of life and divine energy. Our co-founder and CEO is a strong advocate for integrating ancient wisdom with evidence-based modern medicine. As an OBGYN who is also a trained Kundalini teacher, Breathwork facilitator, avid meditator, explorer of plant medicines and various other ancestral traditions from India to Latin America, she cultivates this in the vision of Aya Contigo and what it can offer. In today's world, integrating ancient wisdom into discussions on reproductive health allows for a holistic approach that considers the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of wellness. By drawing upon these teachings, individuals can cultivate a deeper understanding of their bodies and make empowered choices about their reproductive journeys. Aya Contigo serves as a platform for exploring the intersection of spirituality and reproductive health, providing insights, perspectives, and companionship that inspire readers to embrace their bodies with reverence and respect.

How does Vitala Global foster a sense of sisterhood and community among individuals navigating their reproductive health journey, echoing the supportive energy often associated with goddess worship?

At Vitala Global, fostering a sense of sisterhood extends not only to the individuals navigating their reproductive health journey but also to our team working diligently behind the scenes for Vitala Global and Aya Contigo. Within our team, we cultivate an environment of support, empathy, and collaboration, mirroring the sense of sisterhood we aim to create for our users. Our team members come together with a shared commitment to our mission: creating a space where everyone feels valued, heard, and respected. We prioritize open communication, mutual respect, and inclusivity, recognizing the unique strengths and perspectives each team member brings to the table. We believe that by nurturing a sense of sisterhood within our team, we ensure that our work is imbued with the same supportive energy and empathy that we extend to our users. This collective spirit strengthens our ability to serve our community with dedication, compassion, and authenticity, embodying the values of sisterhood and solidarity at the heart of our mission.

How does Vitala Global celebrate diversity and inclusivity within its community, recognizing that every individual's journey toward reproductive health and body autonomy is unique and sacred?

Vitala Global celebrates diversity and inclusivity within its community by recognizing and honoring the unique and sacred journey of every individual toward reproductive health and body autonomy. We understand that each person's experiences, backgrounds, and identities shape their reproductive health journey in distinct ways, and we strive to create a space where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and supported. Through our digital platforms, community events, and support networks, we embrace diversity by providing resources, information, and support that are inclusive and accessible to individuals from all walks of life. We prioritize representation and visibility, ensuring that our content and messaging reflect the diverse experiences and perspectives within our community. Furthermore, we actively seek out partnerships and collaborations with organizations and individuals who represent a wide range of voices and experiences. We work to address systemic barriers and promote inclusivity within the broader reproductive health landscape by amplifying marginalized voices and advocating for equitable access to reproductive health resources and services.

How does Vitala Global envision the embodiment of divine femininity intersecting with the empowerment of individuals in their reproductive health choices and journeys?

We envision the embodiment of divine femininity intersecting with the empowerment of individuals in their reproductive health choices and journeys through a holistic and inclusive approach that honors the innate wisdom and power of the feminine spirit. At the heart of our vision is the recognition that every individual possesses a divine essence, regardless of gender identity, and that this essence is inherently connected to their reproductive health and autonomy. We believe that embracing the principles of divine femininity—such as nurturing, intuition, and compassion—can empower individuals to make informed and empowered choices about their bodies and their health. Through Aya Contigo, our community engagement in Venezuela, and advocacy efforts, we seek to create a supportive environment where individuals can access the resources, information, and support they need to navigate their reproductive health journey with confidence. We prioritize inclusivity and diversity, recognizing that everyone's experience is unique and deserves to be honored and respected. We strive to dismantle systemic barriers and address inequities that impact individuals' access to reproductive health care and information by advocating for policies and practices that uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals. We work to create a world where everyone can exercise their reproductive autonomy freely and without judgment. We believe that the embodiment of divine femininity is inseparable from the empowerment of individuals in their reproductive health choices and journeys.

How does Vitala Global foster a sense of interconnectedness and harmony between individuals and the natural cycles of life, reflecting the reverence often associated with goddess-centered spirituality?

We recognize that our bodies are deeply interconnected with the natural world and the cycles of life, and we honor this connection by promoting practices that align with the rhythms of nature. We encourage individuals to tune into their bodies' natural rhythms and cycles, fostering a deeper understanding of their reproductive health and overall well-being. We draw inspiration from goddess-centered spirituality, which often emphasizes the sacredness of the feminine and the cyclical nature of life. By honoring the divine feminine within ourselves and in the world around us, we cultivate a sense of reverence and respect for the interconnected web of life that sustains us all. Through our work, we aim to create a supportive and nurturing environment where individuals can embrace their connection to the natural world and find harmony within themselves and their reproductive health journeys.

Finally, what message of empowerment and self-love would you like to impart to readers of SoulTech magazine as they embark on their journey towards embracing their inner goddess and reclaiming agency over their reproductive health and bodies?

Release any shame or guilt that may hold you back, and embrace the fullness of who you are with compassion and acceptance. Above all, remember that you are enough just as you are. You are deserving of love, respect, and dignity, and you have the strength and resilience to navigate whatever challenges may come your way. We caught up with Life and Sensuality Coach, Fab Bliss, to talk about owning your goddess sensuality

Can you share your journey into Tantra and life coaching with us? What inspired you to pursue this path?

I always felt intuitively that sex was about so much more than sex, as an act of raw physical desire. The first book I ever got my hands on was the Kama Sutra bc I was a curious kitty and found a copy under my mom's mattress, which is interesting since she was NOT at all what one would call sex-positive. I'm unsure if I received a "transmission" or why I connected to the book because I was only 6 or 7 and I could only connect with the images. I had the distinct feeling that I had discovered something sacred versus "naughty," like when you find your dad's porn stash. Of course, that didn't change the fact that, like many, if not most people, sexuality was super shamed and repressed in my family and the general community—and it felt hyper-turned up for me because of both my energy and my physical attributes (puffy lips and big eyes and boobs since the age of 9). And there began the disconnect…but also the deep desire to discover the superpowers that everyone seemed so intent on concealing. Needless to say, a fire for discovering sexual superpowers isn't exactly met with approval in most circles. There was no viable outlet for discovering anything outside the shame-based, judgemental old-paradigm beliefs and mixed messages about eroticism other than to become an exotic dancer or a sex worker, so I chose a career in media and journalism instead (I couldn't dance, and I was chubby lol). Looking back, it was likely chosen with the semi-conscious intention to be a legitimate "researcher" into topics that were off-limits to most people. With urban culture/fashion/entertainment being my first area of expertise, it was also where I got the closest look at how much sexuality actually influences so much of our culture in every arena—from fashion to politics to music, everything. It was a wild and winding path from there to here sprinkled with SO many good stories, and now in retrospect it makes sense that the plans were laid out perfectly.  By 25, I was burnt out from the pressure of publishing a magazine and later making enough of a living from freelance writing and content creation (we didn't have all these tools back then) to afford to live in Manhattan…not to mention soul-snatched by the industry itself—the inauthenticity, the posturing, the late nights of chasing celebrity interviews. I have always been super sensitive, and the duality was depressing me—everyone hyperfocused on "performing" sexuality while simultaneously repressing the most powerful energy in our bodies. One day, I told my editor at the publication I was with at the time that I needed to write something  "with substance" and asked if I could write a piece on Tantra…Rolling Stone had just released an interview with Sting, who was a practitioner at the time, and it's what I believe started the Neo-tantra buzz going in popular culture—I was just following a vibe. Long story short, I went to my first workshop, and on about the third day of a week-long intro to Tantra, my body exploded. I can't say it any other way. It was an experience similar to what people describe with psychedelics and plant medicine but with none of that involved. Nothing was involved besides being fully in my body, alone, breathing, and present.  I had no idea what had happened (my teacher later described it as a "kundalini awakening"), and it took many years to put words to it, but I knew it was the confirmation I was looking for. There was something about sex—actually no—about sensuality—that was waaaay deeper than any of us had ever been told. And I decided to F around and find out.

How do you define Tantra, and what aspects of it do you incorporate into your teachings and coaching sessions?

I avoid defining Tantra as much as possible because doing so can only dilute it. It would be like trying to define an orgasm or a sneeze…you can DESCRIBE it, but in the end, you'll only get it when you have it. The closest description for my experience is simply the complete embodiment of your senses—it's an unlearning of concepts versus a learning of techniques—but people LOVE techniques! And they want to UNDERSTAND experiences intellectually versus surrendering to them; we are just wired that way. The moment you have a goal around something, you may achieve it, but you can't go beyond it because your brain has no concept of what that looks like. When it comes to sexuality, in particular, ALL of us have some very disempowering beliefs and misinformation. The spectrum of education for most people ranges from sex ed to porn, sprinkled with religion and judgment, and shame. There's a REASON that the major religions & powers that be don't want you to access sexual freedom. A person free of shame and guilt can't be controlled or manipulated. It is literally the key to liberation. I ur very survival depends on it. In my coaching sessions, I incorporate bodywork, breathing, movement, and sound to create a space of surrendering to sensations…simple techniques that sound unspectacular in language but release massive energy and leave people buzzing with sensations they didn't know were available.

What are the biggest misconceptions people have about Tantra, and how do you address them?

Paradoxically, it is about SEX. The truth is that sex as a physical act is quite ordinary and can even be boring. It's a horrible cliche, but everyone's heard it; "for every pretty girl, there's a guy who's sick of sleeping with her." That's because most people are engaging in a goal-oriented physical act versus an exchange of powerful sensuality that has the ability to create actual magic. One of my favorite quotes that sums this up perfectly, by James Baldwin: "To be sensual, I think, is to respect and rejoice in the force of life, of life itself, and to be present in all that one does, from the effort of loving to the breaking of bread."

What advice would you give to someone who is curious about exploring Tantra but may feel hesitant or apprehensive?

I advise them to identify their motivation and the source of the fear. Living your truth, breaking patterns, and finding your purpose is not for cowards. Someone looking to learn a skill like this to manipulate or be perceived as a "master lover" without a sincere desire to change will not succeed because they aren't willing to BE changed. This practice will change you; it will give you access to so much sensation, including pleasure and connection, but it also will shatter your ego &  dismantle everything you thought you knew to make space for what's NEW.

Could you share a transformative experience or success story from one of your clients that highlights the effectiveness of your approach?

Yes! I worked with a client in New York for over six weeks, and I remember thinking he was one of the most stereotypical "Wall Street" types I'd ever encountered. He chose to work with me because he said he felt somewhat numb physically and suspected he was "missing something" in his intimate experiences. I designed a session for him where we could slowly discover what places in his body felt "stuck", again by incorporating elements of breathing, sound, and therapeutic bodywork. Well, he was a talker, and usually, it was a challenge to get him on the massage table because he liked to tell me stories of his exploits, which mostly involved strip clubs and dating Russian models who were 20 years younger. For the first few weeks of our work together, I couldn't understand why he had chosen Tantra—which is all about strengthening connection and intimacy—when he clearly enjoyed a rather (fun if relatively empty) Rockstar lifestyle. It wasn't until his last session that it all made sense. I had just finished doing a rather long bodywork session (I had almost defaulted to giving him simple massages because he seemed so resistant to wanting to access deeper feelings), and at the end, while still lying on his back, he kept extending his arms in the air. I asked him, "I'm not sure why you're doing that. Do you want a hug?" I sort of meant it as a joke, but he nodded, looking almost ashamed. I asked him to sit up, and since I knew I would probably not see him again, I gave him a very warm, long hug. I felt his whole body finally loosen at that moment, and I understood. "Oh!" I said, "So THIS is what you're missing?' And he started to cry. It was quite beautiful, and he wrote me a long letter months after thanking me for showing him that all he really wanted was a connection.
